Amazon’s corporate headquarters becomes Asia Square’s key tenant

AMAZON has become the complex's new anchor tenant, opening a 100,000-square-foot corporate headquarters in the Marina Bay retail and office development. Additionally, the international technology corporation intends to generate over 200 new employment in Singapore by the end of 2022.

The new office, which is part of the community's growth ambitions, is three stories tall. It will accommodate more than 30 teams and up to 700 people from Amazon's consumer business and corporate operations; the company said Wednesday in a press release (Oct 27).
The business stated these individuals support Amazon.sg and Amazon Fresh and Amazon Advertising, Prime Video, seller enablement, and other regional corporate responsibilities.

The workplace has to display space for products, 50 breakout places for casual talks and brainstorming, and five big conference rooms equipped with videoconferencing capabilities. Additionally, it has work and study spaces, including 33 quiet rooms and 12 phone booths. Additionally, two training rooms may be used as actual town hall event venues.

At the moment, Singapore has over 110 job vacancies. Amazon wants to add more than 200 new roles to these divisions to enhance its Republic services and provide further assistance for local firms looking to develop globally, the company noted.

According to Amazon Singapore country manager Henry Low, the new office underlines the company's continuous commitment to investing in Singapore and the nation's long-term potential to be a global digital economy leader. "The pandemic has permanently altered the way we operate, and as our teams expand here, the new facility will guarantee they have the freedom and adequate room to interact, co-create, and innovate on behalf of our clients," Low added.

Gan Kim Yong, Minister of Trade and Industry, said that Amazon had been a critical partner in assisting the local business community and growing Singapore's ecosystem. Apart from serving as a retail platform for Singapore firms, it also provides various tools and services to assist local merchants in expanding their customer reach.

"I am appreciative of Amazon's strong collaboration with several government programmes during the pandemic, which aided Singapore's SMEs in their transition to digital enablement and e-commerce adoption," he said. Additionally, the corporation has developed employment possibilities in cloud computing, operations and logistics, and data engineering. Gan noted that it employs over 2,000 people in Singapore across its many business segments, the bulk of whom are Singapore nationals or permanent residents.

In 2008, Amazon established infrastructure operations in Singapore. Later that year, in April 2010, it opened the Amazon Web Services Infrastructure Region for Singapore to provide cloud computing services. Since then, the technology behemoth has extended its products to include Amazon.sg online shopping, Amazon Fresh, an Amazon Prime subscription, Prime Video, and Twitch.

Amazon launched Amazon Prime Now in Singapore in 2017 and has since grown to include two fulfilment centres and a last-mile delivery centre. It found Amazon.sg for local shoppers two years later. Other divisions of the company, like Audible, an audiobook and podcast service, and Twitch, a live-streaming network for gamers, have regional offices in Singapore.
